Renovation of the Air Traffic Control Tower and
Upgrade the STAR System
This project for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) consisted of a 14,000 SF renovation and a 6,100 SF addition to the existing Base Building of the main Air Traffic Control Tower at the Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Renovations included:

New Catwalk surrounding the ATCT Cab

Updating the Restrooms at the Cab Level

Removal and Abatement of Asbestos in the Existing Floor and Ceiling Materials

Converting Four (4) HVAC Systems from

Refrigerant to Chilled Water Systems

Installation of a new Chiller to serve the air-handling units

Implemented temporary cooling measures for the FAA Equipment Rooms during the HVAC systems conversion

Installation of a new Fire Alarm System
-
Updating the existing electrical system to accommodate the new Standard Terminal Automation Replacement System (STARS) integrated by the Federal Aviation Administration
Additions Included:

Expanding the existing Radar Room, Radar Equipment and Communications Rooms

Construction of a new Conference Room

Construction of a SAFE/Tornado Room

New asphalt parking lot and drives
Dustproof enclosures, air quality monitoring and other systems were provided to prevent cross contamination between occupied and unoccupied spaces. The ATCT and Base Building remained fully occupied and fully functional for the entire life of the project without a single interruption to the 24-hour operation.
