Scope of Work:

This SGS Design-Build project included the design and construction of a 12,000 sq. ft. Food Distribution Center, located in Perkins, Oklahoma. The Food Distribution Center includes administrative offices, lobby/reception area, commercial kitchen space for food preparation and training, staff breakroom, restrooms, and warehouse space to store perishable and non-perishable food items.  Special features include a walk-in freezer/refrigerator in the warehouse, a large freezer/refrigerator in the self-serve area, and a fully equipped teaching kitchen.

A key component of the Food Distribution Center is the loading/unloading docks located on the south side of the facility.  Large shipments of food products are transported in and out of the warehouse each week, using forklifts to load and unload 18-wheel trucks. The dock utilizes a dock leveler system to accommodate the height variances of various trucks.  A concrete ramp and turnaround areas for 18-wheel tractor-trailers were constructed with heavy reinforced concrete pavement of sufficient thickness to accommodate the additional loading requirements.  The site design located all trucking areas separately from regular vehicle traffic to enhance the site circulation of heavy traffic and ensure the safety of visitors arriving at and/or departing from the Food Distribution Center.

Approximately six months after completion, a second phase was added to this project which renovated / expanded the Food Distribution Center an additional 12,000 sq. ft. making the total size of the building approximately 24,000 sq. ft. Renovations included additional concrete service drive, mechanical (HVAC) and electrical systems, and removing/replacing the reinforced foundation and footings, metal stud framing, exterior sheathing, and roof system where the new expansion was tying into the existing Food Distribution Center.
